Our Wider Church

Holy Cross is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church
in America, (ELCA) and a member of the Metropolitan Chicago
Synod. As such, this congregation affirms the confession of faith
of the ELCA, which accepts the canonical scriptures as the inspired
Word of God, the source and norm of our proclamation, faith and life.
We subscribe to the Apostles, Nicene and Athanasian Creeds as
declarations of the Christian faith and to the Lutheran Confessions.

The ELCA headquarters building is located in Chicago near O'Hare Airport.
The national body consists of just under five million members in nearly 11,000 congregations. It maintains 28 colleges, 10 seminaries and nearly 300 missionaries working in some 50 countries. It provides 280 social service facilities such as hospitals, homes for the aged, and facilities for persons with special needs.
